2012 Summer Program
General Information
WHO: The National Junior Tennis League of Indianapolis (NJTL) offers low-cost tennis instruction to youth ages 5 to 18 (children must turn 5 by 06/01/2012). Beginner, intermediate and advanced players are welcome.
WHAT: Youth are taught the fundamentals of tennis through instruction and matches. Tiny Tyke classes, for 5 and 6 year-olds, are held twice per week for 30 minutes. Beginner 1 (ages 7-8) and Beginner 2 (ages 9-10) classes are held twice a week for 45 minutes. Beginner 3 (ages 11-18) and intermediate classes are held twice per week for one hour; advanced classes are held twice per week for two hours. In addition, matches are played most Fridays. NJTL instructors teach healthy living and life skills, such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect, during lessons. All participants are encouraged to participate in NJTL’s “Love to Read” program which includes two components. First, a reading contest which encourages our youth to continue reading throughout the summer. As a second component, all participants are encouraged to take part in the Arthur Ashe National Essay and Art Contest. A free NJTL T-shirt is provided. Loaner racquets are provided as needed.
NEW THIS SUMMER - Anyone interested in signing up for an advanced class must be approved by NJTL's Program Director. Two tryouts will be available for evaluation at Riverside Park (2420 E Riverside Drive) - Saturday, April 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. or Saturday, May 12, from 9 to 11 a.m.
WHEN: June 11 through July 31, 2012. Classes are held twice per week (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday). In addition, matches are held on most Fridays.
WHERE: NJTL is offered at 15 sites throughout Marion County.
FEES: The cost per child varies by site. The cost at some sites is $15 per child for the entire summer, while the cost at other sites is $40 per child for the entire summer. All advanced classes are $60. At $40 sites, NJTL offers a family rate of $15 for the third and each subsequent child. Scholarships are available based upon need. No refunds will be made unless class choices are full.

Before you begin, please remember:
Two class choices must be listed in order for your registration to be accepted.
A registration form must be completed for each participant.
Make sure you are selecting available times and locations by checking our class schedule first.

Intermediate players should be able to keep score, consistently serve legal overhand serves into the correct service box from the baseline, and easily rally back and forth with another player.
Advanced players should be proficient at all intermediate skills, have significant match play experience (most playing on school teams), and should be able to hit topspin during rallies. They should be in the process of developing power, spin, and strategy. Players need to attend a tryout session at Riverside Park.

Step 4: While it is not mandatory, we ask that you print
and mail a
Consent for Photos and Images form for each child
and mail it with the Mandatory Consent form.
This allows us to take pictures of your child during the program and post them on our Web site, etc.
This option will be available until Tuesday, May 29 at 5:00 p.m.

Option 3: On-site
Register at select NJTL sites on
Saturday, June 2, from 10:00 to noon or
Monday, June 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Registration will continue on-site throughout the summer (please check our class schedule first to see if we are holding class the day you want to register at your desired location). If you would like to print off forms and complete them to bring to registration, please print a registration form (PDF, 790 kb), for each child you will be registering.
